So happy to see some progress in Jasaan. I’ve always thought that the beaches there were beautiful. One of the additions to Jasaan’s shore is Sophie Red Hotel & Onshore Restaurant. Now I’ve been to local hotels and I’ve also tried ones abroad, Sophie Red is a mix of those types of hotels. The hotel is located right near Bobuntugan just right beside the Butuan - Cagayan de Oro - Iligan Rd. I’ll be posting the GPS coordinates soon. It just opened last November 2017 so it’s a fairly new hotel.
Classy Area
What I’ve noticed in Sophie Red Hotel is that it has adopted several designs from hotels abroad. I’ve been to Novotel in Bangkok, Thailand and I saw several elements in the hotel. Sophie Red maintains a red and white theme. There are some pictures of the area.
Comfy Rooms
Sophie Red Hotel offers very large rooms. I’ll be posting pictures of the rooms after I’ve edited out my stuff. In my excitement, I occupied the room and got a little bit messy while preparing for the wedding of my cousin.
The cheapest room in Sophie Red Hotel is the Deluxe Room for Php 3,500 (December 2017 price). I know it’s pricier compared to local hotels but it is worth every peso. Each room is locked/opened with a card key that you just swipe near the door knob and the same card key is used to keep the power ontt via the plastic slot right near the door.
The room is large enough for a family of four to fit in. Inside are two single beds and each bed is big enough for two people. There’s the usual LCD tv (72 inch by my estimate), free two bottles of water, a water heater for the free coffee and sugar and finally a small refrigerator containing a few cans of soda.
The bathroom is quite large. Approximately 10 by 4 feet equipped with a shower stall (transparent walls) one toilet and a large counter with the basin.
As for storage, unfortunately there are no safes or small vaults for your valuables. However there are bedside tables with drawers, a small coffee table and a big cabinet where you can hang your clothes.
Aside from the price and lack of vaults, the room is great for a family of 4 (or with children) and provides a great place to rest after a whole day of activity. Checkout time is the usual 12 noon.
Sophie Red Hotel Presidential Suite
Need a bigger room? Sophie Red Hotel has a presidential suite. Originally intended for honeymooners, the suite has a living room, a bed room and bathroom.
The living room has a pullout sofa that can fit about two people. If you’re looking for extra bedspace, the area can handle about 3 to 4 people on mattresses. However each mattress can cost Php 600. But if you’re sneaky enough, you can bring your own. Sophie Red Hotel staff are very accommodating anyway. Technically, they don’t care about the number of people inside.
The bedroom on the other hand has a king size bed that can fit about 4 people. The room also has enough floor space for about 5 people. All in all, a maximum of 10 people can fit in the Presidential Suite. I know cause we were there.
There’s only one bathroom though. It does have a bathtub, shower stall and the usual fixtures. If you’re maxing out the room, there might be a scramble for that one bathroom. But hey, every vacation is an adventure.
The only cons to this room is that it costs Php 8,500. Pricey but with the other amenities, it’s worth it.
Sophie Red Hotel Multipurpose Function Halls
When I visited the place last December 2017, the area was packed. Sophie Red Hotel had a lot of guests occupying the function halls. There’s one large function hall, two small ones and you can also use a few balconies and the Onshore Restaurant for your events. I wasn’t able to get the prices though but you can call them to check prices and book a hall.
As for catering, since they have a restaurant you can ask them to provide for the food. I believe at that time we had my cousin’s wedding, there was no corkage for the lechon.
Overall, the function hall we used was great. Nice acoustics, good for 100 people or so.
Pools, Beaches and More
Other attractions in Sophie Red Hotel are the swimming pools. There’s one adult pool and on each side are kiddie pools. You can swim there from 6am to 9pm in the evening. There’s also the beach where you can snorkle and see the corals and fish. If you’re famished, the hotel has a restaurant in the basement that serves breakfast and at 12 noon, the Onshore restaurant opens. It has a breathtaking view, cool breezes and good food.
Finally there are two docks. One near the hotel and one in the onshore restaurant. You can use these docks to avail of the water sports that Sophie Red Hotel offers. If you’re early enough, you can catch the ferry to the white island.
As for wifi, Sophie Red Hotel has a fast connection. Unfortunately during the 2nd time I visited, the place was fully booked and because of the number of connections, the speed and connectivity suffered. However I think they took our comments and will be upgrading their connection.
In the future there will also be a gym for free for people who’ve checked in. For now, there’s the basement spa that offers massages and body scrubs. If you don’t like going to the spa, you can request for the therapist to go up to your room.
You're not just limited to the hotel. Sophie Red Hotel also offers tour packages. You get to tour several spots in Jasaan to see exotic animals to the waterfalls near the area.
The Future of Sophie Red Hotel & Onshore Restaurant
I’m excited to see this hotel flourish. It really made me feel like I’m a tourist enjoying in a hotel abroad. There are some areas they need to improve though but you do have to consider that Sophie Red Hotel & Onshore Restaurant just opened. Overall, I enjoyed my stay (I went there TWICE) and will be returning in the future.
