Golden Orient Spa–New in CDO

Cagayan de Oro city has been experiencing a boom in businesses these past few years. Recently I found another new business up and I was fortunate enough to pass by. Golden Orient Spa now serves kagay-anons  professional spa services. The spa is located in Velez corner Gomez street with the nearest landmark as Octagon. If you're facing the entrance of Octagon, just glance to the right and you'll see the spa (shown in picture). I’ll be editing this post once they have their phone installed. The spa just had their soft opening on January 8, 2018. Now you might wonder what makes it different. The management is aiming to rise above cookie cutter spas. If you’re a tourist in Cagayan de Oro, the best spa right now would be Golden Orient Spa.

Cool Spa Interior

The spa has a cool blue color scheme. It might come as a surprise for spa goers as most spas tend to focus on earth colors like brown and red. However, the lights and color scheme go together well to provide a relatively bright but relaxing atmosphere. 

Mellow music plays throughout the expansive spa. That’s another surprise. Golden Orient Spa has lots of space. I've noticed that the beds are not crowded together. In fact, there are 4 big rooms with only two beds each. These rooms provide lots of privacy and each room has a big comfort room. That’s another plus as most spas barely have enough CRs.

One disadvantage though is that the spa is located on the 3rd floor. It's just a couple flight of stairs so it’s not really a long climb.

Trained Therapists

As I entered I saw that the whole place still needed some construction. However they were already accepting clients. I was greeted by the owner who happily accommodated me. Apparently the therapists were in the staff room being trained by a TESDA instructor. As he explained, the instructor has been training the therapists since the first week of January and will likely continue until the grand opening (date to be announced). It’s nice to see an owner paying attention to what really runs a spa, trained therapists.

Golden Orient Spa offers a relatively affordable list of services. Their cheapest massage is 199 pesos and the rest at 299 pesos. Other services like the body scrubs are at prices 1,299 to 1,500. The spa does use natural oils, herbs and other products as the Golden Orient Spa owner also owns Eco Pure Tech. His other company supplies natural oils, cleansers and toiletries to several establishments such as hotels in Mindanao.

The Massage Experience

I got a newly trained therapist. Admittedly, the new therapist was a little bit nervous and hesitant. Still he tried his best. There was some hesitation when he got near my private parts and hard to reach areas. I do like my gluteus massaged because as a nurse, I use those muscles a lot especially when pulling and pushing patients and stretchers. But the owner graciously accepted my comment and promised to help improve his therapists.

Up close, the room is clean. Towels are also thick and comfortable. They also offer boxer shorts so you won’t get your underwear oily.  Lights so far were relatively bright. Most people usually like it a bit dim for relaxation. I’ve also informed the owner about it.

The oils used were great. Golden Orient Spa has very aromatic oils. Because they use organic oils gets absorbed easily however it might take several applications to your body. More bang for your buck as you’re sure the oils get applied to your body and you’re benefitting from it. 

One big plus that I've noticed is that organic oils are easier to remove from your body. Per experience, mineral or baby oil clings to your skin even after a hot shower and scrubbing with soap. Golden Orient Spa oils are easily cleaned with a hot towel or light shower. 

Extra Services in Golden Orient Spa

As for extra service in Golden Orient Spa (no not that ES), the owner has ensured that clients are comfortable all throughout their stay. When you enter, you’re given reusable slippers which are soft and comfortable. Kind of like the ones in hotels. It makes sense as he also owns a company that supplies those slippers to hotels. 

The foot wash prior to the massage is a foot bubble bath machine. After the massage, you get a complimentary tea of your choice. You can even ask for coffee while waiting too, but I’m not a coffee drinker so I wasn't able to test this. I have to say, for the 299 pesos I paid for the massage, those extra services in Golden Orient Spa were worth it.

Golden Orient Spa aims to provide professional services that will leave you relaxed. I’ve heard from the owner that he plans to give discounts as a promo. Being a former OFW and nurse, he also plans to pay homage to other OFW and nurses and give them discounts. I believe Golden Orient Spa will be the best spa in Cagayan de Oro city if they maintain their service and improve in the future.
