Globe Announces New Prepaid WiFi Promos 2019

So I’m back with an update and some really good news! Recently, Globe decided to expand their Homesurf promos with new packages that are a bit more affordable. I’m passionate about this because if you haven’t inferred already, I’m kind of an internet addict. Only because I can read a lot of books, watch instructional videos and more with the internet. I can definitely say, the internet has helped my vocabulary and further my career.

Let's look at exciting Globe At Home Prepaid Home WiFi (GAHPHW) promos in 2019. Unfortunately, I’ll have to start with a little bit of bad news. I’m even surprised at this change.

Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi GS50 and HomeSURF Promos

New GOSURF50 in 2019?

One of the popular promos in Globe is the GOSURF50. As I was doing research for this article, I called 211, the Globe customer care hotline. There’s a recorded message there about GOSURF promos. You can listen to the Youtube video below.

So apparently, GS50 data bucket now only gives you 700mb of data. I’m not sure if this is an old recording or a new one because advertising and clarifying with the hotlines gives a different data allocation. The following are in the GS50 promo.
  • 1 gb data – Just a reminder to everyone, Globe treats upload and download the same. If you’re fond of uploading videos and pictures like a 500mb video, it will be deducted to your data allowance.
  • 2 gb of GO Watch and Play – For use with specific apps/websites. Again upload/download applies. I’ve covered more about this in a separate article.
  • 300 mb – Choose one among the following (upload/download applies):
    • Facebook
    • Viber
    • Twitter
    • Instagram
    • SnapChat
    • Spotify Basic
    • Video (YouTube or Dailymotion)
    • Games (Mobile Legends / Clash of Clans / Pokemon Go)
      • The 300mb requires registering manually so you’ll have to get inside the GAHPHW dashboard, access the SMS and manually register your choice. This was meant for mobile data with the Globe Prepaid sim inside phones. If you’re not really keen on using the 300mb additional, then you can ignore this.
  • Validity – 3 days
  • Max Advertised Speed – 50 mbps

HomeSURF 15

Perhaps one of the more exciting promos out there. The HS15 is now an add-on to the other HomeSURF promos! I haven’t tested it yet. However, I tried asking the customer hotline about this. The info they have is that HS15 is an add-on only to GS50. I’ll test this one out and post again soon.

  • 1gb data – For regular browsing. Upload/download still applies
  • Stackable – Warning: The GAHPW system will use HomeSURF first before Gosurf. So if you register GS50 and then register HS15, your 1gb GS50 will not be used until the HS data is used up.
  • Validity – So far, follows the latest and longest promo. Example. GS50 then HS15, 3 days validity. But if you register another promo with a longer validity, it will follow the longer validity. Still, some reports say HS15 lasts only 24 hours or 1 day. Will be testing this out.
  • Max Advertised Speed – 50 mbps

HomeSURF 199

  • 5gb data – For regular browsing. Upload/download still applies.

HomeSURF 599

HomeSURF 999

  • 30gb data – For regular browsing. Upload/download still applies

Finally! Globe actually created new promos so that the regular consumer has a choice. Most people who choose the GAPHW like it because of the portability. You can bring this anywhere there’s a Globe tower. There are barely any home broadband LTE plans left as Globe has been phasing them out in favor of wired internet services. Just a note, you can extend each promo before they expire with another promo.

Why Choose Globe at Home Prepaid WiFi?

Truthfully, a wired internet service is cheaper and more stable. But if you’re planning for mobility, the the GAPHW is for you. It’s ideal for students in boarding houses, for rideshare, for your stall. Basically, any place that would be hard to install a wired internet service provider.

Is the GAHPW Cheaper than postpaid?

As an owner of a postpaid Globe LTE home broadband, I have to say the plans are cheaper. Here’s a little bit of perspective. I have a 1,299 LTE plan from globe. Here are the benefits:

  • 50 gb data – For regular browsing. Upload/download still applies.
  • Additional 100 gb data – For YouTube only
  • Perks: Data boost packages that are cheaper (20gb – 99 pesos)
  • Max Advertised Speed – 10 mbps

Comparing it to HomeSURF 999 plus the HS15 add-ons and 50 mbps speed, you have a better deal with GAHPW.

GAHPW Disadvantages

There are some disadvantages to the system. You need prepaid load, registering the promos can be a hassle and downtimes can hit you any time and finally, as a prepaid system, you are often bumped down to a lower speed in favor of postpaid services. This is something that I’ve noticed. If you’re in an area that has a lot of postpaid LTE (broadband or mobile data), you will experience slow speeds. Even people making phone calls near you can affect your speed. Finally, you won’t have an idea if your area is covered or not.

Apparently, HomeSURF works best on a special frequency. If your area doesn’t have it, then you’ll be using a congested frequency wherein postpaid users will be prioritized.

Overall, it’s matter of weighing your pros and cons. For those on a budget, this is the best so far.
