Globe at Home Prepaid and Triangle App Review

UPDATE:

Please see this new blog post on how to register Globe at Home Prepaid wifi promos

So it seems that the new system of Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi has a few surprising twists for consumers. I’ve already reviewed Globe’s new HOMESURF promos recently and after almost a week of usage, here’s what I found out.

The Free 10gb of Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi

It became viral a few weeks ago. Prepaid users attempted to text FREE10GB to 8080 in hopes of getting free data. Unfortunately, it’s only available for Globe at Home prepaid wifi users. As I’ve written in another post, the data is only good for 7 days. Again, for a large family, that 10gb will be gone almost immediately. I know I’ve used up mine for just FB, a couple of hours of mobile MOBA and about 1 hour of youtube (in 3 days of usage) and I already shaved off 4gb. After a couple of days of extensive use, I’m down to only 600mb left that is after topping up with gosurf50 and a gosurf 299 for a total of 11.5 gb data.
The Gosurf299 successfully extended the validity of the free10gb for 30 days. Unfortunately, it didn’t last that long. This is one of the problems with Globe. They want people to be conscientious with data usage because allegedly, too much data usage can affect and slow down their network. And yet here they are offering 1gb data valid for a day like in some Gosakto promos (or 3 days for gosurf50)  which actually forces people to try and use up the data they paid for (or 10gb in 7 days). Globe promos don’t make any sense for the consumer. But profits wise, well played Globe.

Homesurf vs Gosurf

Here’s another problem with Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi. Homesurf is a separate promo of Gosurf and unfortunately, the data doesn’t add up to each other. In fact, the FREE10GB has a separate validity from HOMESURF. I was able use HOMESURF15 because I previously had GOSURF50 registered.
This means your Globe at Home app will look like this.

There’s a different validity for Gosurf and Homesurf. I’m not sure why but when I try to use data, the Gosurf data gets used up first. But since Homesurf had a validity of only 3 days, I was forced to register to HOMESURF599 to extend the validity to 30 days.
All in all, I’ve spent a whopping 1,200 pesos already for just this much data. Alone, I think this will be enough for me. For a family as this product was intended, they’re better off getting a DSL or fiber internet service.

Globe At Home Prepaid Wifi and Triangle App

A couple of days ago, Globe got hit with another set back. First, they are set to discontinue the Globe Home-Fi app by November 15, 2017. So you’re forced to download the Globe At Home app. Second, just a few days ago, the new app failed to update the data usage. This meant that the usage meter stayed the same despite consuming large amounts of data which caused headaches for subscribers. They did manage to fix this after a few days though but the data lost can’t be recovered.
While the problem was prevalent, I tried using the Triangle App. Yes, Globe at Home Prepaid wifi works with the Google’s Triangle App. Unfortunately again, only to some extent. The Triangle App will only record your promos and Gosurf data. Not the Homesurf data. Here’s an overview on what each app can do.
GLOBE AT HOME TRIANGLE HOMESURF
The triangle app fails to show the homesurf data allocation. However, the Globe at Home APP doesn’t show you your data rewards and most importantly the add on data that you get when you register for GOSURF promos such as GS299 where you get 1gb for either FB, youtube, viber etc.
So in a way, you’re stuck using both apps which is might be a good thing cause you will be able to verify the data that have left with your Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi.

Google’s Triangle App registering only Gosurf and Add-on data
For now, the Globe at Home Prepaid wifi promos such as Homesurf is the best that you can get from Globe Telecom if you don’t want to be locked into a contract with a monthly recurring fee.
