It’s not a secret that there exists an underground market for sim cards and devices that gives cheaper internet to Filipinos hoping to save on monthly recurring fees. The advent of social media has made it easier for black market vendors to target their customers (aka victims). Okay so I’m throwing a little shade on “customers” there. I know that there’s a saying in Philippines. “Walang manloloko kung walang magpapaloko.” Which roughly translates to:

I just got several emails asking me about how I “budget” my data with the Globe at Home Prepaid wifi (GHPW). Full disclosure, I gave my GHPW to my grandmother. She’s not a heavy data user and is content with HOMESURF599 which gives her 15 gigabytes of data every 30 days.

I am currently using my original Globe Wimax account 1mbps unlidata. It has since then been upgraded/changed several times. First was the 1mbps for 15gb a month for 995 per month. Then 1mbps for 3gb/day as Globe LTE home broadband for 799 pesos a month. Currently it’s Globe at Home 10mbps 150gb for 1,299 a month. I’m using this plan because it’s cheaper than the Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi, not because I said GHPW is useless from what I wrote in a previous blog.

I understand that people don’t like to “spend” 599 pesos in one go or even spend for the 1,000+ home broadbands. So they’re using different techniques to “save” money. And some have asked me if their way is the best way to do so. I assume you already know how to load/register promos via the Globe at Home app (GH app) and the modem dashboard.

HOMESURF349 is the 10gb for 10 days promo. I’d just like to show how the promo is inferior to HS599.

HS349 x 3 = 1,047 pesos / 30gb for *30 days

HS599 x 2 = 1,198 pesos / 30gb for *60 days

A lot of people have been emailing and messaging me on how to register to promos with their Globe at Home Prepaid WIFI. The box does come with a set of instructions but some find them lacking. So I’m making another blog post to help others on maximizing their home prepaid wifi.
These are the following ways that you can load or register your home prepaid wifi.

1. Via SHARE-A-LOAD (SAL)
2. Through the Globe at Home app
3. Through the modem dashboard

I don’t have time for 2 and 3 because honestly, if people know how to use the Globe at Home app and modem dashboard, they wouldn’t need this tutorial. So on to the simplest but very effective method of loading your Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi.

I promised myself not to blog about Globe anymore cause it just riles me up. But I tend to be very passionate about things that I rarely stop haha. Anyway, I’ve seen a lot of people send me PMs on FB, emails and even text messages about Globe’s prepaid home wifi (PHW). I thought about making a guide according to what I’ve learned so far. What is the Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi

So let’s start with a little bit of intro. The Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi or as I’d like to call it prepaid home wifi shortened to PHW (for brevity) is a wireless modem and wifi router. This means it functions as a modem so you can surf the web but at the same time it’s a wifi router so you don’t need to buy another device.

The PHW modem does have a LAN port at the back so you can connect it to your laptop with a LAN cable. Globe boasts of a max 50mbps speed (averaging 20mbps for most people) but it comes with a hefty price tag. You have to buy the modem for Php 1,999. It comes with the PHW sim card which is a special sim card for reasons I will state later.

Some weeks ago, I bought a Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi. It was supposed to be my 4th alternative internet connection in case the others keep failing. I mean it’s all from Globe but with none to poor signal for other ISPs, it’s not like I have a choice. I have the following internet connections with Globe:

• Mobile postpaid
• Home broadband LTE
• Prepaid
• At Home Prepaid Wifi

And I spend at least 4,000 pesos on all of them because I have an online job that requires connectivity. It sucks that they all fail most of the time.

UPDATE: It’s been 2 hours now and I still cannot browse the internet even though I have 21 gb of data as shown by the Globe at Home Prepaid App.

2nd UPDATE: So I have to wait for 7 days to get a call. Bye bye 6gb worth of data. I regret buying this stupid thing. Oh well.

It seemed like a promising product at first. Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi looks like a relatively cheap promo when you consider that you can have 15 gigabytes of data for only Php 599 and a possible 1gb for only 15 pesos (HOMESURF15). However it seems as if Globe did not really specify how their other promos will react to multiple promos registered.

A few days ago, I registered to Gosurf50. I was hoping on topping up with several homesurf15 so that I can enjoy livestreaming services from Netflix. Unfortunately, I couldn’t register to HOMESURF15 until yesterday which was the last day of my Gosurf50. So yesterday, I was able to register to HOMESURF15 six times. That meant I had 6gb of data. Upon seeing that the data validity would last only for 1 more day, I immediately registered HOMESURF599 for 15 gigabytes for 1 month. I was hoping that the validity will be extended. I had a total of 21 gb of data as seen on the Globe at Home app.

So it seems that the new system of Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi has a few surprising twists for consumers. I’ve already reviewed Globe’s new HOMESURF promos recently and after almost a week of usage, here’s what I found out.

The Free 10gb of Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi

It became viral a few weeks ago. Prepaid users attempted to text FREE10GB to 8080 in hopes of getting free data. Unfortunately, it’s only available for Globe at Home prepaid wifi users. As I’ve written in another post, the data is only good for 7 days. Again, for a large family, that 10gb will be gone almost immediately. I know I’ve used up mine for just FB, a couple of hours of mobile MOBA and about 1 hour of youtube (in 3 days of usage) and I already shaved off 4gb. After a couple of days of extensive use, I’m down to only 600mb left that is after topping up with gosurf50 and a gosurf 299 for a total of 11.5 gb data.

I have wondered why Globe has a home prepaid wifi. For people who are not aware, the Home Prepaid Wifi of is a product of Globe Telecom and it is an LTE modem and wifi router device that currently costs Php 1,999. It is not a plan/contract, but you have to  regularly purchase load credits in order to surf the internet.

However previously it used to cost much more but I can’t find those advertisements, I think it used to be about 2,500 or 4,000 (not sure). Unfortunately, there is a fatal flaw with their product. The prepaid data plans are TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE or TOO TIME RESTRICTIVE.

Globe at Home Prepaid Wifi Promos (GOSURF)

The old promos are as follows

• GOSURF50 – 1gb of data, 3 days validity
• GOSURF299 – 1.5gb of data, 30 days validity
• GOSURF599 – 4gb of data, 30 days validity
• GOSURF999 – 8gb of data, 30 days validity

Now you have a wifi modem router that’s meant to be used at home, presumably by a family of 3 or more and then you have these promos. A 30 minute 720p YouTube video is almost 500 mb. It’s actually stupid. You can do multiple GOSURF50 registrations, but you can’t register a lot in one day and  they will all have the same expiry of 3 days.

I find the whole thing moronic.

• 299 divided by 50 = 5gb yet GOSURF299 is only 1.5gb
• 599 divided by 50 = 11gb yet GOSURF599 is only 4gb
• 999 divided by 50 = 20gb yet GOSURF999 is only 8gb

Sure the validity is different. Go ahead and register GOSURF50 every 2-3 days. But why subject your customer to such inconveniences when you could just offer 1,000 pesos for 20gb in a month?

Tipid Load for the Filipino Nars : Globe Edition

Once a banned item, it’s now a necessity as consultants, resident on duty and attending physicians demand continuous communication in the hospital. Smartphones have evolved into an essential tool for patient care. Sometimes the physician will ask for a picture of the Xray/Ultrasound to be sent through Viber or FB Messenger. It’s actually a better alternative than having to type out the whole page of the impression/result.

You don’t need to sign up for a postpaid account though. The burden of paying a monthly recurring fee (MRF) can eat away at your (already meager) salary and savings. Instead, try the following prepaid promos from Globe Telecom.

If you want to avoid incurring additional charges or overspending with your Globe Postpaid Plan then download the GServices App. It’s an official app from Globe Telecom to help their postpaid subscribers manage their plan and it offers a lot of services with just a few simple taps.

Dialing 211 can be a hassle. Keying in *143 and choosing from a menu can sometimes take time and one simple mistake will force you to restart the whole process. Don’t even think about texting 1234, your inbox will be flooded with messages and texting back the keywords will take time. Use the GServices App instead. Just connect to the internet via Wifi or your own data plan and you’re all set.
